Cost effective peeling for potatoes and other root crops
To achieve a cost-effective peeling process of potatoes, carrots and other root crops, it is important to reduce peeling losses and minimize water consumption. The peeling process impacts product quality which is improved by uniform peeling over the entire potato surface.
The PPM Technologies Continuous Abrasive Peeler achieves efficient peeling by using eight high speed abrasive rollers. Product is fed through the peeler via a screw conveyor. The peeling time and peeling loss are controlled by adjusting the speed of the feeding screw.
The high speed of the rollers and the adjustable individual roller speeds result in efficient and uniform peeling. The high speed operation reduces water consumption. And, the design is self-cleaning as peel and dirt are thrown to the side walls of the peeler. Peel and dirt can then be collected in a tray located under the rollers.
The abrasive rollers are coated with a long-lasting, hard material based on aluminum oxide and zirconium oxide manufactured in a similar way as industrial diamonds. Rollers are easily accessible and can be recoated improving overall maintenance costs.
For fresh potatoes or use as a deskinner after a steam peeler, the continuous Abrasive Peeler can be supplied with nylon brushes. And, sanitation is easy with the stainless steel design and removable panels.
